Taco Seasoning Mix – Homemade Taco Seasoning Recipe
It is super easy to make your own homemade taco seasoning mix, and you may already have all the ingredients in your pantry.
When you buy the store-bought taco seasoning it may have more preservatives, artificial flavors, anti-caking agents, and other chemicals that you don’t want. When you create your own spice blend at home, you will be able to control exactly what ingredients are used. Additionally, ingredient levels are under your control, especially if you like to limit the salt in your diet.
What Ingredients Do You Need To Make Taco Seasoning
Let’s first take a look at the spices that we’ll need to go into this recipe
- Chili powder: Chili powder is not required in some recipes. However, I find that it adds a nice depth of flavor to our fajitas and ground taco meat. In this recipe, we use American-style chili powder which is mild compared to cayenne.
- garlic powder: Make sure to get just the garlic powder without salt. You can use either granulated garlic or garlic powder.
- onion powder: Make sure to get just the onion powder without salt.
- cayenne pepper: Cayenne pepper is the spice that adds a little heat and a kick to this recipe. If you don’t like it spicy, you can always leave out the cayenne pepper without sacrificing too much flavor.
- dried oregano
- paprika: you can use either regular paprika or smoked paprika for a little more flavor to it.
- ground cumin: Cumin is one of the main ingredients in taco seasoning and it is used in most Mexican cuisine.
- salt
- black pepper
- crushed red pepper flakes
