How to Make The Best Chicken Drumsticks in an Air Fryer

How to Make The Best Chicken Drumsticks in an Air Fryer

If you’re looking for a delicious and healthier way to enjoy chicken drumsticks, this is one of the best air fryer chicken recipes that I tried. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the step-by-step process of creating irresistibly tasty and juicy chicken drumsticks using an air fryer.

Preparing the Chicken Drumsticks:

Selecting Quality Drumsticks: Start your chicken drumstick recipe by choosing high-quality meat. Opt for drumsticks with even sizes to ensure uniform cooking. Remove excess skin if desired.

Rinse and Pat Dry: Before you start, rinse the chicken drumsticks under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. This helps remove any excess moisture.

Marinade: Enhance the flavor and juiciness of your drumsticks by marinating them. This combination will not only add depth to the flavor but also contribute to the beautiful golden color as they cook. Let the drumsticks soak in this spice mix for at least 30-60 minutes before cooking.

Air Frying

Preparing the Air Fryer Basket: Give your air fryer basket a light coating of cooking spray to prevent sticking. Place the coated drumsticks in a single layer, making sure they aren’t touching each other. This allows the hot air to circulate evenly, ensuring that every side becomes golden color.

Cooking Time and Temperature: Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and cook the drumsticks for about 20-25 minutes, flipping them halfway through. The internal temperature should reach a safe 165°F (74°C). Cooking times may vary slightly based on the size of the drumsticks and the air fryer model.

  • 1 tsp Garam masala
  • 1 tsp Coriander
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 2 tbsp Corn flour
  • 1 tbsp Kashmiri chili powder
  • salt

Instructions

Prepare Chicken

  • Remove the skin from chicken legs and trim off any excess fat before cooking. Wash and drain any water from the chicken. For this recipe I prefer to remove the skin from the chicken legs.
  • Pat the chicken dry with a paper towel to remove any extra liquid.
  • Make two or three slits in each drumstick with a knife be careful; they are slippery.
  • Add the chicken pieces in to a ziploc bag

Marinate Chicken

  • In a medium mixing bowl combine all ingredients under “For Marinate Chicken”
  • Pour the marinade into chicken Legs and combine it all together to make sure all chicken pieces are coated very well with the marinade.
  • Marinate chicken for at least 60 minutes but for the best flavour, allow the chicken to marinade for 2-12 hours.

Arrange in the Air Fryer

  • Lightly grease the air fryer basket with cooking spray or by using an oil mister.
  • Place the chicken legs in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Most air fryers require batch cooking to retain the food in a single layer and let air to flow. Optional: Lightly spray chicken legs with oil.

Cook the Chicken:

  • Put the basket back into the air fryer and cook the drumsticks at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, turning them halfway through the cooking time. Cooking times might vary depending on your air fryer model and the size of the drumsticks.

Check for Doneness:

  • The chicken is done when its internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the outside is golden brown.

Serve

  • Once cooked, carefully remove the drumsticks from the air fryer and let them rest for a few minutes before serving. This helps retain their juices.

Notes

Because this recipe was created to operate with a variety of air fryers the cooking time stated is an estimate. It’s possible that your air fryer will take a little longer or shorter than the time listed.
